Bitumen Emulsion
Bitumen emulsion is a liquid mixture of bitumen, water, and an emulsifying agent, used primarily in road construction, maintenance, and waterproofing. Because it requires no heating and can be applied at ambient temperatures, it is a safer, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative to hot bitumen.
Traditionally, bitumen must be heated to extreme temperatures (over 150°C) to become liquid enough for use. Emulsion solves this using three components - Bitumen, the primary binding material; Water, the carrying agent; and an Emulsifier, a surfactant that breaks the bitumen into microscopic droplets so they remain suspended in water without clumping together. The result is a binder that can be stored, transported, and applied cold, then cures on-site through evaporation and coalescence.
